You asked, we listened.
Team Entry now available for the Ride over the Edge cycle festival!
With Government restrictions easing, many of you have asked if you could use this event for your weekend group rides. Our reply was that as every penny we raise goes to Brain Tumour Research, we would be delighted to have groups and teams along, provided government restriction permit. Our Team entry is based on a maximum of 6 riders and offers a substantial discount on the solo rider entry. So if your up for a Team entry then click the team entry button below and enter details for the team co-ordinator. We will contact you to obtain team members mid July.
Lions Club British Isles have pledged to raise £1m for Brain Tumour Research, a National Charity dedicated to raising funds for research into brain tumours. You can help Wotton Lions help others by cycling towards a cure for what’s often called the last battleground against this devastating form of Cancer.
Starting in the historic market town of Wotton Under Edge, our adventure will take you through some of the Cotswolds’ finest landscapes, along quiet country roads and lanes. With routes to suit all cycling abilities, the emphasis is firmly on a day in the saddle that will test your stamina and reward your effort.
Taking you along your choice of three planned routes, you can start at anytime during the two-day event window, and at any point along the route. At prescribed locations you will have to capture your progress at our control points, which will be clearly identified on the route/control card given to you at the start. For the speedy, control stations can simply be scanned with your smartphone.
All routes are circular, bringing you back to your start point, where you can log the last control point. If you’re starting in Wotton, leave your bike in one of our secure storage areas and wander around this beautiful town and enjoy some well-earned refreshments in one of the local cafes or pubs!
Is it for me? Well, we are offering three routes:
100k route that will be aimed at the enthusiastic or possibly club rider, who is comfortable spending 4 – 5 hours in the saddle, where the majority is on B roads, but could involve periods on A roads.
50k route aimed at fit regular riders, comfortable spending 2.5 – 3 hours in the saddle on predominantly B roads but with short sections on A roads.
25k route aimed at leisure riders and families that are confident bicycling along B roads and country lanes, at a more relaxed pace.
On all routes, at least one control point will be located in a facility where you can purchase food/drinks and use a bathroom during normal shop hours.
This is an unsupported ride, however, a route will be issued and marked at key points. In the event you have an irreparable roadside breakdown, we will have recovery vehicles available to take you back to Wotton. If you haven’t used your bike in a while, now’s the time to get it serviced!
As a participant you will be covered for 3rd party liability insurance, however, the organisers cannot take responsibility for any other loss or damage. By taking part, you must have satisfied yourself that you are healthy enough to do so.
You can ride alone, but if you are riding with a group of friends or relatives, you must ensure that your group size is strictly in line with the government advice applicable to the day of the event.
All entrants will receive a bespoke medal and certificate of appreciation from Wotton Lions. All proceeds will be donated to Brain Tumour Research, via Lions Club International British Isles.
So, lets RIDE OVER THE EDGE and put this dreadful disease behind us!
